We've all been there – let's navigate it together. If you're unfamiliar with the term 'Sunday Scaries,' check Urban Dictionary for some insights. 😮
I know that at first glance this does not look like a meditation post; but it is! Sometimes moments like this are the easiest and best time to feel mindful. For example: you may feel mindful of how much your head hurts, you may even be too mindful about some things!
That being said, let's take this as an opportunity to listen to and give our bodies the rest it needs. I'll organize this post into three categories: physical, mental, and social. We'll explore ways to counter the potential effects of a wild weekend on each of these fronts.
Physical:
If you're feeling a bit under the weather, these herbal remedies might help:
Peppermint tea for digestion
Chamomile tea to calm the nerves
Ginger for an energy boost
Unlike common belief, a big greasy breakfast is not always best. Your body is already using a lot of energy breaking down any toxins and cleansing, you may want to try foods that are easier to break down, and build up as the day goes on (so you can have a big greasy dinner instead)
Here are a few hangover happy meals:
Smoothies/Smoothie Bowl
Greek Yogurt with berries and honey
White Rice and miso soup
Fruit salad
Avocado Toast with everything bagel seasoning.
Often times your body can feel heavy and hard to lift after a long weekend. A light streching/yoga session can aid in returning blood flow and energy to the body!
Try these yoga exercises to rejuvenate your body:
(for the full walk-through click here)
Balasana (Child's Pose)
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)
Savasana (Corpse Pose)
Halasana (Plow Pose)
Mental:
Practice mindfulness in small, manageable doses:
Occasionally take a breath of mindfulness, and come back into your body
Reflect on the weekend without self-criticism (hint: take a refresh inhale and exhale when thoughts stick around too long)
Forgive yourself for any excesses and move forward
Practice self-love meditations.
>I surprisingly only found a few YouTube meditations I really enjoyed for a self-love and forgiveness exercise. This highlights the importance of combining tips from many practices and creating your own version of self-love affirmations. I did find a great narrated talk/meditation on self-love by Sister Dand Nghiem (TW-talk on harsh negative self speech). I also linked a MODMIND meditation here.
Create a comfortable environment:
Practice self-love by taking a thoughtful shower and treating yourself to a comfy day "hygiene ritual"
Set up your space how you like.
>Take this time to get moving a bit today. Pick up some clothes or junk on your floor and get it out of your space for a while. Maybe light a candle and make a hot drink!
Watch a comfort movie or show
Order your favorite meal for take out
Social:
Reflect on what's within your control:
Focus on your reactions and choices
Take accountability and make amends:
Reach out to those affected by your actions
Reconnect with friends and find solace in shared experiences:
Share a funny story from the weekend
Have a Sunday get together to recover
Offer and receive support in laughter and understanding
Good Luck! 😋
and
Happy Sunday ☀👻
